How We Started & Who We Are:
Captain Robert "Bob" Morreau was born in Haida Gwaii and is a third-generation fisherman. He began commercial fishing at the age of 8 with his parents and, by 12, had saved enough money to purchase his first commercial vessel. Short on funds to buy the necessary net, he struck a deal with a neighbor: in exchange for a net, he would mow the neighbor's lawn for the summer. Early in the season, Bob caught plenty of fish and earned good money. Although he attempted to renegotiate the deal to pay for the net outright, his neighbor insisted he honor the original agreement. Bob continued fishing salmon along the shores of Haida Gwaii for several years.
In his late teens, he set his sights on Vancouver, seeking larger vessels and greater fishing opportunities. Bob quickly advanced through the commercial fishing industry, eventually earning the chance to run a seine boat in open waters. He became one of the top skippers, excelling in the herring and salmon fisheries, and later entered the trawl fishery. Regardless of the boat he commanded, Captain Bob's passion for fishing drove him to succeed.
Today, after many years of fishing, Captain Bob manages his fleet and oversees fishing operations with his wife, Zoe. He still participates in herring and salmon seine openings, his favourite fisheries.
